Widget Games

I decided my foray into this game class would begin with a dashboard widget game on my Mac. I perused apple.com's house list of widget games, sorting through titles which looked promising.

SNAKE! Maybe on a Motorola, but not a Mac.


After a couple of duds, Brent Silby's Defense Unit managed to keep me amused for more than twenty seconds. Here's the deal: Defense Unit is a simple shoot-em-up game in which you are a rotating double gun turret in the middle of a battlefield. You must blast enemies of various size, speed, and strength before they destroy home base. Fierce, pulsating, energy blasts or the slightest single touch from any foe reduces the turret to a pile of rubble. Such a tragic destiny culminates in a spectacular fireball - but fear not! You have two lives left to continue this very simplistic, steadily hectic, yet increasingly pleasurable game!
